The joint development of sod-podzolic and lightgray forest soils is investigated on the land released from agricultural use situated within the southern slope of Gorokhovetsky spur of the North-East of the Vladimir region. Morphological and physico-chemical properties of light gray forest and sod-podzolic soils influenced by both natural and anthropogenic factors are analyzed.

The article is devoted to the assessment of the influence of biotic, abiotic and anthropogenic factors on the dynamics of production processes of various ecosystems located in one natural and climatic subzone — the southern taiga of the Eastern European Plain.
The study was carried out on the example of four key sites in the Vladimir region, located in different landscape provinces in similar climatic conditions, but with certain differences associated with the characteristics of the soil and vegetation cover, anthropogenic load, and land use structure. Calculation of productivity indicators in carbon units is based on MODIS GPP/NPP data. The amount of organic carbon in the soil is determined according to the UN Food Organization (FAO) based on the Trends.Earth module of the GIS QGIS package.
Common to the four ecosystems is the course of changes in the indicators of vegetation productivity over the years against the background of its different absolute values. Favorable conditions for the accumulation of carbon in the soil are formed in areas with high productivity and a large number of overgrown lands. The results of analysis of variance ANOVA demonstrate that the factors of time and spatial position of key sites do not affect the content of soil organic carbon and gross biological productivity. Land use structure is a significant factor. It is shown that the insufficient productivity of some ecosystems is compensated by an increase in the productivity of neighboring ones, therefore, the preservation of intra-landscape diversity is a necessary condition for maintaining the stability of their functioning.

Assessment of the influence of surface pollution of soil with oil products on its enzymatic activity and vertical migration of zinc and copperMoscow University Bulletin. Series 17. Soil science. 2026. N 3. p.204-216read more42

This study assessed the impact of soil surface contamination with used motor oil on the migration and accumulation properties of zinc and copper, as well as estimated the activities of soil urease and catalase, two of the most important parameters characterizing soil self-healing processes under oil contamination. X-ray fluorescence, titrimetric, infrared spectrometry, and other methods were used to determine soil parameters and analyze petroleum products. Six years of monitoring under field experimental conditions revealed a significant accumulation of zinc in the surface soil layer (0–10 cm)—up to three times that of the control. This accumulation was due to the increased influence of the natural geochemical barrier—the upper organogenic soil horizon—by the added petroleum products, as well as the increased activity of ureolytic bacteria capable of precipitating this metal as insoluble carbonate minerals. Copper exhibits significant mobility under contaminated conditions, characterized by migration from the 0–10 cm layer and accumulation at a depth of 10–30 cm, exceeding the control level by up to 2.6 times, due to the high affinity of this metal for water-soluble fractions of petroleum hydrocarbons, heavy precipitation that fell during the monitoring period, and the presence of a thick clay layer at a depth of 60 cm and below, which served as a geochemical barrier preventing its further downward migration. Urease activity in the soil increased significantly, which was observed throughout the experiment. Soil catalase activity was inhibited immediately after the application of the petroleum product to the soil, and by the end of the study period, it increased to values 47,6% higher than the control level, indicating a gradual restoration of the microbiota and stimulation of soil self-purification processes.Keywords: urease activity; radial contrast coefficient; heavy metals; petroleum hydrocarbons; used motor oil
